Comforts of Home Date Night, Day 4
Step One: You don’t have to get all dressed up (after all this is a comforts of home date), but make an effort to be clean and attractive. I like to brush my teeth and hair and touch up my makeup right before Adam gets home.
Step Two: Bake him a sweet treat whether you pick up pre-made cookie dough or start from scratch. Have it in the oven when he arrives home so he can get a whiff of sweetness. Here’s my Adam’s favorite peanut butter cookie recipe:
Hannah’s Criss-Cross Peanut Butter Cookies
1 cup peanut butter (creamy or crunchy)
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup superfine white sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 TBSP milk
1 1/2 cup self-rising flour
a pinch of salt
a generous handful of peanut butter chips (or m&m’s)
Put peanut butter in a microwave safe bowl and microwave on high for 20-30 seconds, enough for the peanut butter to melt into a gooey mess. Cream together softened room temperature butter.
Add in both sugars and mix until light and fluffy. Add vanilla, egg, and milk. Beat until well-mixed. Stir in flour and salt and continue to mix thoroughly.
Fold in peanut butter chips or m&m’s. Let the dough sit uncovered in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. Preheat oven at 375 degrees F (400 degrees F for higher altitudes).
Pull dough out of fridge. Using an ice cream scoop, make balls of dough (should be around 1-1.5 inches). Drop dough on an greased cookie sheet 1.5-2 inches apart.
Pat down each ball of dough. Using a fork, press down the tines to make a criss-cross imprint.
Place in pre-heated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes (8-10 minutes at higher altitudes).
Enjoy with a glass of milk!
Step Three: Make his favorite comfort foods. In my case, Adam loves pizza (Click on the above photo for Barbecue Chicken and Corn Pizza). Check out these other fun and healthy pizza recipes from Real Simple. Pick up his favorite beverage to serve. Feed him a slice (or whatever you’re serving him). Dare to go a little Lady and the Tramp style and meet in the middle with a kiss.
Step Four: Put on some romantic, soulful music, kick off your shoes, and slow dance in the living room.
And the best part about an “married at-home” date is you can invite him back to the “bedroom” at any time!
