VCR REMINISCING DATE IDEA: June 7th

VCR day! Do you still have one of these? We do. Make a date with your husband and curl up to watch one of your favorite VHS tape movies together.

I love this photo of the older couple on the big red couch. I’d love a big red couch to curl up with my husband when I’m in my 60s, 70s, and 80s. VCRs will be ancient history then though I suppose.

BANANA SPLIT DREAM-BOAT DATE IDEA: June 9th

“Life’s too short. Eat dessert first.” Banana Split Day! Make these classic sweet treats at home with your husband. Or try these twists on the banana splits.

Try Banana Split Cake or Banana Split Pie.

Banana Split Bites

Banana Split Pops

Banana Extravaganza Pudding

Banana Split Cheesecake

Banana Split Cupcakes

or a breakfast treat – Banana Split Pancakes

Or if your husband is like mine and doesn’t like bananas try my recipe.

Berry Dream Boat parfaits

Ingredients:

2 cups milk, vanilla pudding mix, low-fat or fat-free whipped cream, fresh berry assortment (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries), 1/2 cup Golden Graham cereal or 2 large graham crackers, chocolate or strawberry syrup, and chocolate chips (optional)

Directions:

1. Whisk together the milk and vanilla pudding mix for 2 minutes.  Set it aside in the refrigerator for at least five minutes.

2. Meanwhile, chop your fresh fruit into bite-sized pieces. Put graham crackers or cereal into a plastic bag and crush with a rolling pin.

3. Pull pudding from fridge and place a generous layer on the bottom. Top with some berries and whipped cream. Repeat and layer. Top it off with cherries, chocolate or strawberry syrup, and crumbled  Golden Grahams cereal or graham cracker crumbs. Throw in some chocolate chips for good measure if you like.

Don’t forget to remind your loved one just how much of a “dream boat” he is!

LET’S GO FLY A KITE DATE IDEA: June 10th

Ride the Wind Day. Pack a picnic to take to the park or head to the beach to fly a kite with your significant other. June 10th is also Iced Tea Day so don’t forget to pack iced tea in a thermos to share. You can pick a kite up at Walmart or a hobby/craft store usually or make them yourself. You can always make your kites on a day with no wind and take them out later. For kite flying tips, click here. For making your own kite instructions, click here. You can combine the June 7th date night with the June 10th date night by going to fly a kite and then watching an old VHS tape of Mary Poppins – “Let’s go fly a kite. Up to the highest height!”

*I attempted to find a VHS version of Mary Poppins online and failed. If you have one, kudos to you!

  1. What a cute idea! Our teaching style is very much alike. :)

  2. Going to try your Berry Dream Boat with my kids they will love it:) Date nights are important even after kids, so many people forget to connect with their hubby’s after children. We try to go out every quarter just the two of us. We have even go on holiday with out the kids for a week just to remember who we are as lovers and friends prior to children. Thanks for linking up to the NOBH

    • I hope they enjoy it! I made it myself tonight. So yummy! I’m glad you and your husband are able to find ways to connect with each other post-kids as keeping love alive is so important, and one of the easiest ways to do that is to make time for each other.
